The divorce rate is increasing in our country.
The first thing we will say its because girls are becoming
economically independent.
But is that the real cause? Have we done introspection?
The time has changed, but we are still following the same
old social rules. Nobody gets married to get divorced.
First question, why a girl has to leave her home and be a
part of other family? Why not a boy? Is it simply because society is male dominated? Aren’t all customs in favor of boy’s family? Don’t you think girl’s
parents keep following these customs so that their daughter can live happily
and none from her in-laws should point at her or her family.
Now girls are educated and self dependent. But are not boys
educated enough to understand that the old customs are wrong?
Why can’t two families stay together, especially if the girl’s
parents are alone? Is that practically impossible?
The new trend if the couple not ready to stay with girl’s parents
then not even boy’s parents and is this more accepted because its practically
possible?
Why people are so narrow minded to stay together? If a girl
can lose her identity why can’t people adjust a little to accommodate and help each
other and live in harmony?
The list of such customs is very long...

Its something noone has set in society, not just in India but even the west follows the same. If we go back to the Ramayan, mahabharat era we do find that these customs have travelled down thousands of years. Even the god had to follow these. The question is not about whether its good or bad but how one can understand his/her partner in difficult situations. Divorce rate has increased more because of ego clashes. We cant deny that we are into male dominated society but all the fact is that a girl can speak her heart out in public which was not the case about couple of decades back. If a guy is sensible enough then he can make the necessary arrnagements so that his wife's lone parents can be supported. we talk back to divorce rates then lack of understanding is the major cause. The thought process which should happen before marriage may be is not happening. Only financial and physical support needed can be a reason as well.Ego factor also comes into picture, because both are independent any small arguement can hurt the ego which after piling up can cause to intense consequences. You can also think that the divorce rate and single mother percentage has increased in last decade or so only when we tried to live the west lifestyle only for making ourselves look cool and not trying to think freely like they do(to some extent and only for good of the society).
Although both of you are right in your own way, I think that its just adaption to change. We haven't equipped ourselves with enough emotional intelligence to practice empathy. Unless either side does it. . Things won't work.
