My Association With Wipro Technologies

Was That A Dream!!!

It was time to choose one of the two offers I had, Byzan System Ltd., a small firm with good projects and Wipro Technologies, an ocean. I had almost a year to decide between these two. I was more concerned about the kind of work than the brand name. All the people around me were suggesting me to go for Wipro with no second thought and my heart was beating for Byzan. Finally I took decision of accepting Wipro offer, which turned to be a wise decision since Byzan could not sustain during 2000-01 recession period.
Nov 2002, I joined Wipro Technologies after waiting for a long time with lots of expectations. I was associated with this organization for more than a two and half year. And during this period I got wide exposure to the industry.

I would say Wipro is the best example of an Ideal IT Company which can satisfy every kind of aspiration of an employee.
- Talent Transformation Dept
- Finance Dept
- All the administrative processes are automated through intranet
- Transparency in processes
- Professionalism
- Onsite – offshore rotation
- All the processes, policies are well thought and planned after doing required research
- Proper growth channel for an employee either on technical side or managerial / functional.
- Very well defined roles
And the best part is all these policies are being implemented and very well executed in Wipro Technologies.

Few aspects I am really impressed with:
- Wings Within which gives clear picture to an employee of various project requirement
- Talent Transformation Dept
- Up-to-date very well arranged intranet site, Tedweb
- Automation of all the processes through TedWeb. (full marks)
- IPAT
- SAP Data of every Employee
The only Department not playing prominent role could be HR or may be I haven’t come across with this entity much. Everything is so transparent and automated through TedWeb that don’t know what role exactly this entity play.

Well, name a single thing which you think should be there in an IT company and its there in place in Wipro.
Am I exaggerating? Hope not!!

Wipro was a company I chose over CTS of pune. And though it delayed the recruitment by 1.5 yrs during IT depression,I have never regretted my decision.
I was perhaps one of the happiest employees of Wipro.

When I left my school for my college I missed it, missed my college when I started going to office, I missed Mumbai when I left for Blore and today I am certainly missing Wipro, Blore n Hybd.

At every step you learn something, you enjoy and you build on it.

HR is also not too bad. I remember, my HR manager Anusha Cherian. I have never seen a more professional and more dedicated HR manager till today. She had a room of her own. THe very first thing she used to do after coming to office, was to keep aside the curtails (the room has glass walls) She used to keep the door open all the time, so that anyone can see that she is in her room. Whenever I wrote a mail to her, she would immediately come to my desk and answer my query. And if some one used to go to her room, she would close the door, keep her laptop aside, and talk face to face. Simply amazing personality. I really had a great impression of the WIpro HR. It is not about Anusha only, but the other people as well.

It was my luck that i got in to Wipro tehn and then in a project which was full of learning. It was wipro first ever successful IP and i am proud to be associated with it. I enjoyed the time when i have no work for a week or so and the time when i was working 18 hrs a day for more than 3 weeks. so it made me robust. I agree that TT and the automation is the success key. I enjoyed working in an environment where you have good things like dress code as smart casuals and flexi timings. My success credit goes to the kind of mamanger i got there, the team. They all werre also enthusiastic and the only goal was to get the work done. i Miss the work culture still, mey be i can find it again some time in my life. Adn HR are good people for in Bangalore but as far as Delhi one are concerned they are bit bad. People at blr are so friendly and ready to help you any time where as peoplein GDC are panicked by their own home fights. Professalism says keep donot mix office and home may be that is the reason. But still its one of the best organisation after TCS that one can join as per my dream list.

Did you really work on a project in Wipro onsite or offshore? Or were you just shuttling between office and home?

All said and done, Wipro seems to be losing its charm. You don't even get a T-shirt with the Wipro logo on it.

I was part of very good projects when I was in Wipro and I got T-shirt as well

Hi, all of you are senior and experienced...so I hope you would be the best people to clear my doubts and concerns...I am a Computer Sc. eng. student of 2009 passout batch ( in my 8th sem now.) Our college organised a recruitment drive for those who had got offers from mostly fraud companys ( Satyam in my case). It was for Wipro.I got selected, but its a BPO job.The authorities informed us about the Wings Within facility of Wipro,by which we could shift to IT within Wipro, after 1 yr I suppose. Is it true? and if so, how much chance is there for a fresher like me to successfully go through it? Plz respond.eagerly waiting for your reply..thank you in advance..

Hi Tiasha,

Wipro has got very flexible structure, its very true that you can shift from BPO to technology but you need to prove yourself. do well in BPO and you will be elidgible to change your stream after one year but you should be able to clear the interviews and should match the requirements of openings at technology side. Nothing is impossible in wipro if you are hard worker. All the best.

I am now working for CTS, I feel CTS top management do not let you down at times of crisis and that is great. THis flows across the organization. In Wipro you do anything to satisfy customer , including sweeping the floor. This will ultimately make you loose your identity and you will become an YES man for everything. Your risk taking ablities will go down, for nobody in wipro will support if there is a failure. These are my opinions only. Once the top management is bit relaxed and motivates people , life becomes easy and job as well.
There are good things in wipro like superior service from different wipro's department's, like admin facilities etc, with very good MIS systems. If wipro focuses less on its own profits and more on customer's profit and taking care of employees in crisis will result in happier organization.

If yes then what is the exact procedure?? I don't want to end up coding stuff which i am not even remotely related....please reply at the earliest!!! Thanx

Hey I really doubt if you can do that. I left Wipro Technologies 4 years before. I am not aware if any new process has been introduced.

It's nice to see so many people praising Wipro. But for me and for many people, Wipro is the worst company with horrible managers and sick people! I would not recommend anyone re-joining Wipro if you want to lead a peaceful life.

Also, the mental trauma that I went through when I was working with Wipro is still haunting me even after 2 years! They made my life a living hell!
