Beauty : Boon or Curse

This is one real story I heard it from one of my friends. The story is from Orisa. The story is of a beautiful girl from his collage. Lets name the girl Neelam.
Neelam was extraordinarily beautiful girl from middle class family studying MCA course. She was as good at her heart as she was by her looks. When she was in her final year she announced in her class that she got engaged. The proposal was from very rich well known family in the town, the family was also having some political background. Obviously everyone was very happy to know this news. From very next day Neelam started coming in a car. The driver used to wait for her till her class gets over.
And finally the D date arrived. Everyone in the class was invited for the marriage. This was the first marriage of their classmates. They reached at the wedding place with lots of enthusiasm. Their eyes were searching for the lucky chap, Mr Groom. And everyone got shock to see the groom. Few of the girls (closed friends of Neelam) started crying. Boys were confused and didn’t know how to handle their crying girl friends in wedding.
The groom was very old to the bride. Everyone was in dilemma as they should be happy for the bride as she is going to be part of the very rich and well known family or they should be sad for she is getting married to not at all good looking, older guy. The girls started crying thinking the pressure the girl and her family might have felt to say yes for this proposal as the family has political background. If they had said No to them the girl would have been in the worse situation. In short, wo log use utha le jaate.
Now friends tell me, is Beauty boon or curse?

I know this is supposed to be a serious blog... so i apologize for what follows ...

Age doesnt define the destiny... i mean take Richard Gere for example... Girls half my age would kill to marry him :)

I think its boon only..it gives choice atleast!!

Did somebody ask that girl whether she herself agreed to that marriage or was forced to do the same?

Well, IMHO the question is here is not only about beauty..it is also about the stringent constraints that parents keep on their children. In today's age also, there are parents who don't give their children the choice to marry the person (s)he likes (:

And I am sure, the girl mentioned here is not a foolish girl, she might have definitely thought about since, in such cases the HEART is kept aside and only the BRAIN is used :) This is the best she could have done to encashed the brain. And IMHO,AGE does not matter in such cases :)

And on any day,BEAUTY IS ALWAYS A PLUS POINT :)

this is really pity situation for the girl.. as the story goes it seems she was not aware of the groom before..however if she had courage to face the world, she could have saved her life... i have seen many boys/girls in my life who saw a worse marriage of their dear ones and then afraid of the same...I think education makes you strong but some times it is the family that takes the preference..i am not sure.. .i would have been among her friends i would have done something instead of standing and crying... being action less is almost as agreeing and being a part of the act.... crying is no solution to anything on this planet.

i know this comment is late... but i personally think that beauty is a matter of luck.. and those who have it, mostly know how to only exploit it and take advantage of it.. I m sure the groom accepted the girl bcos of her good looks and there could be no other reason... But as we are unaware of the girl's choice, we can only assume that she was obviously happy with the wedding , keepin in mind the prosperity and luxury she would be enjoying after the marriage..... thats what i think!!!!

I didn’t know about such story as of now, maybe I need to people around there and I really don’t think its true anyways. But after reading your blog I found most of the things are based on assumption and giving only one side of the picture.

There is this mind-set with most of the people ... BTW, what made them cry ? Because that ‘the person was old (dono how old)’ or ‘that he was not as beautiful/smart as the girl’ or ‘actually they were feeling jealous that the guy was so rich’ or ‘they were thinking that the gril and the family were torched for this proposal?’ or ‘they actually don’t know why there were crying?’ And I think there are no end to all these assumption and whether finally they turned out to be a good couple?
